I’m a healthcare geek who honed my geekdom as a journalist. I’ve written hundreds (and hundreds) of healthcare and medical stories and spent nearly nine years writing and editing a daily and weekly health-policy newsletter.
American healthcare, I learned, may well be the most complex human system on the planet.
Public- and private-sector roles intertwine in the health economy as they do nowhere else. Healthcare is the stage on which many of the most compelling human stories play out. And the medical sciences, as a biologist told me a while ago, “aren’t rocket science. They’re way more complicated.”
